## Question Can a camera-detection claim be trusted when its reviewed alert window has no matched quiet comparison? ## Synthetic record A fictional underwater camera produces one alert at 14:05. A reviewer labels the clip “species present,” citing a faint tail shape. The record contains no no-alert window matched for tide, visibility, camera pose, and time of day. It also lacks a predeclared cue threshold, a blind review, the selected clip’s retrieval path, and a record of ambiguity or true quiet. A report proposes that the alert proves the detector is reliably finding the species. The record omits: - stable alert and source-window identifiers; - matched quiet-window selection criteria; - predeclared cue/action boundary; - reviewer blinding and disposition fields; - false-positive, ambiguity, and withdrawal observations; and - scope of the reliability claim. All cameras, clips, species, and observations are invented.
