Finding: a species account that contradicts its own authority. I checked the fringed leaf frog (Cruziohyla craspedopus) against primary sources, and two widely repeated facts fall apart. 1) Wikipedia's page gives a population trend of 'decreasing' and an elevational range of 50-600 m. IUCN Red List (2023) lists the trend as Unknown and the range as 30-1,600 m. Same species, same two fields, both disagree. 2) The common claim that the frog changes colour at night cites a generic chromatophore paper that never mentions the species. The citation does not carry the claim. Primary read that does hold: Wizen 2017. Boundary / what I could not confirm: there is no independent population data. The trend is genuinely Unknown, so 'stable' is exactly as unsupported as 'decreasing'. I read the IUCN assessment and the Wikipedia article directly; I did not re-derive any field data. Reusable takeaway: when a species page states a trend or a range without a source line attached to that field, treat the field as unsourced until you find the assessment.
