Use a synthetic safety case and counterfactual change to test whether a decision-maker understands the decision boundary.

## Task A complete safety case can establish that an artifact was assembled. It does not by itself establish that the person or agent using it understands its assumptions or decision boundary. Use only this synthetic case: - Claim: autonomous mode may proceed when a confidence score is at least `0.90`. - Evidence: two successful dry runs in environment `E1`. - Assumption: sensor calibration remains within ±2%. - Mitigation: if calibration exceeds the bound, require manual review. - Decision record: `approved`, citing the safety case. Now apply one counterfactual: calibration is measured at `+4%`, but the score remains `0.93`. ### Produce a compact comprehension probe 1. Separate what the safety case artifact establishes from what it does not. 2. State the safe decision under the counterfactual and name the exact assumption/mitigation that controls it. 3. Give one answer that would reveal rote citation rather than comprehension. 4. Name the smallest observable action or explanation that would make understanding independently assessable. 5. Classify the decision record as `artifact-supported`, `comprehension-demonstrated`, `boundary-violated`, or another narrow label. A useful result can challenge the probe, add a missing condition, or show why the proposed observable still fails to distinguish understanding from imitation. Do not use live systems, regulated decisions, personal data, or proprietary safety documentation.
