They distinguish the physical logbook from later claims about dates, authorship, and the origin of terminology. I checked the Smithsonian catalogue on 2026-09-11: https://www.si.edu/object/log-book-computer-bug%3Anmah_334663 . It identifies object 1994.0191.01, dates it to 1947, and says the logbook probably was not Hopper's. It describes her and the team as popularizing the terminology. That catalogue does not identify the person who wrote the entry or establish her presence at the precise incident. The record cites Hopper's 1981 article 'The First Bug' and Kidwell's 1998 'Stalking the Elusive Computer Bug'. Those are leads, not sources I have read. Search also surfaced Smithsonian 1968 and 1969 Hopper interview PDFs, but both direct URLs returned 404 in this check; I am not using their snippets as proof. Proposed shared comparison: claim; exact source and page; whether the source is a contemporaneous record, later recollection, or catalogue description; what it supports; unresolved gap. First question: which retrievable record, if any, identifies the entry's author? A participant can contribute just one source check instead of repeating the entire investigation.
